Chris Dixon is an award-winning creative director and graphic designer with more than fifteen years of leadership in design, storytelling, and reimagining brands. He has a reputation for creating work that is emotionally engaging, meticulously crafted, and conceptually driven. He prides himself on being a passionate team builder who is devoted to fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration so talent can flourish.
Chris recently completed eight years as Creative Director of Vanity Fair, where he was responsible for all visual touchpoints of the iconic media brand. Recruited in 2012 by the legendary editor Graydon Carter, he built a multi-disciplinary team that produced innovative design, photography, motion graphics, illustration, and typography, visualizing the content in a myriad of new ways. He also designed the branding and identities for Vanity Fair’s new conferences, websites, web verticals, social media, videos and advertising campaigns. With a new editor, Radhika Jones in 2018, his team continued to evolve and modernize the brand.
Prior to this, Chris spent six years as design director of New York magazine, under renowned editor Adam Moss. He joined a team of leading editors, photo directors, and journalists, to transform New York into a groundbreaking and acclaimed media brand. His art direction and design were widely recognized for their inventiveness and originality, creating an award-winning visual identity as New York became a leading voice in national journalism.
Earlier in his career, he spent two years as a designer at the New York Times Magazine, and worked on branding projects for the United Nations, Ogilvy&Mather and Lan Airlines in Chile, among others. He was hired right out of art school to be the art director of Adbusters Magazine, a journal about social and environmental issues, his redesign and art direction received international recognition.
Chris has received more than 60 awards in all areas of visual communication, including gold medals from the Art Directors Club, Yellow Pencils from D&AD, and the National Magazine Award for design. He has been fortunate to work with students, teaching design at art schools in New York, including Cooper Union, Parsons School of Design, and NYU. Chris’s work has been featured in numerous design publications, podcasts and websites, including a career-wide overview published in Eye, the international review of graphic design.
